What do University of Denver students actually do on Tuesday nights?


If you look at the University of Denver’s official Instagram, Tuesday nights probably look like a group of ethnically diverse students pointing at a MacBook in the Anderson Academic Commons.

The reality? It’s a bit more nuanced.

DU isn’t a "party school" in the way CU Boulder is, but don't let the small campus size fool you. By Tuesday, the "Front Range Fog" has usually set in, and students are looking for an escape. If you’re a DU student, your Tuesday night usually falls into one of three buckets:

The "Stad" Ritual 

The Stadium Inn (affectionately called "The Stad") is the quintessential DU dive. On a Tuesday, it’s not the raging scene you’ll see on a Friday, but it’s where the "real" DU happens. It’s cheap, it’s gritty, and it’s where you’ll find upperclassmen avoiding their capstone projects. If you want the unvarnished truth about a professor or a frat, you find it here, not at a campus tour.


The South Pearl "Study" Session 

For those who actually are hitting the books, they aren’t always in the library. Many head to Stella’s Coffee Haus on South Pearl. On Tuesdays, it’s packed with students fueled by caffeine and the "vibe" of being off-campus without actually leaving the DU bubble.


The "Denver Advantage" Escape 

Because the Light Rail is right there, a surprising number of students head toward Broadway or LoDo. Whether it's "Electronic Tuesdays" at The Black Box or just hitting a comedy night at Comedy Works, DU students leverage the city more than the university admits.


The Point?

Colleges love to talk about "community," but they rarely define what that looks like on a random Tuesday at 10:00 PM. Is the DU community at the library, or is it sharing a "Spaghett" (Miller High Life + Aperol) at Campus Lounge?
