By the time you hit the end of your second year, you’ve churned through six quarters of content. The "Common Curriculum" Cushion 

The silver lining at DU is the Common Curriculum. Unlike big state schools where you dive headfirst into major-specific tracks, DU’s core requirements are broad and mandatory. If you’ve been diligent about your FSEM and core sequences, you might have more flexibility than you think. However, that flexibility disappears the moment you look at the Daniels College of Business or the Ritchie School of Engineering.


The Daniels Barrier 

If you want to switch into Daniels after sophomore year, you aren't just changing a major; you're applying to a secondary school with its own gatekeepers. You have to navigate the "Microsoft Excel" certification, specific GPA hurdles, and a sequence of business cores that are notoriously difficult to "double up" on. If you haven't started those by the fall of your junior year, you’re almost certainly looking at a summer quarter or a fifth year.


The Tuition Math 

Here is the nuance the "University of Denver" brochure won't highlight: DU is expensive. Adding a single extra quarter because you switched majors late can cost you upwards of $15,000 to $20,000 when you factor in housing.

The pressure to "just finish" a degree you don't want is high at DU because of the price tag. But finishing a degree you’ll never use is a bigger waste.
