You’ve seen the "World Needs More Cowboys" banners and you know it’s only an hour north of Fort Collins. But moving across the border into the "307" is a bigger culture shift than the short drive suggests.
Admissions tours will show you the stunning sandstone buildings and talk about the low student-to-faculty ratio. But if you want to know if you can actually survive four years in Laramie, you need to ask these 10 questions that the brochure won't touch.

1. "How do I master the 'Laramie Lean' and will the wind actually break my car door?"
Why it matters:
In Laramie, the wind isn't a breeze; it's a physical opponent. You need to know that "the lean" is the 45-degree angle students walk at just to reach the Union, and that if you open your car door without a firm grip, the Wyoming wind might literally bend the hinges. Traditional weather stats boast "300 days of sunshine," conveniently leaving out the part where that sun is hitting you during 60 mph gusts that close I-80 for days.

Why it matters:
Many CO students assume staying in-state at CSU or CU is the cheapest route, but after "mandatory fees" and housing hikes, UW often wins the price war. A tour guide will tell you it’s a "central green space," but a student will tell you it’s where you’ll face your toughest battles against the wind and where you’ll inevitably see everyone you know when you’re trying to be invisible.
